Make Money with Digital Photography
Digital photography can generate extra incomes for many enthusiasts and hobbyists. Today digital photography is one of the fastest growing hobbies across all age groups. With a little know-how and some creativity, you too can turn your hobby into a money-making business. There are many ways by which you can put your camera to work to generate an income.
With a little imagination, some showmanship, a bit of salesmanship and the readiness to do some work, you are all set to go!
If you are already into digital photography, then you most likely will have some of the equipment to get started. You will need a digital camera, ideally a digital SLR, some accessories like a tripod and suitable lenses.
In addition, you will also need a good digital photo editing software. Popular photo editing software available in the market includes applications like Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Corel Paint Shop Pro X.
Investing a few hundred dollars in accessories and equipment will get you off to a good start.
Before we move on, this is a good time to clear up one false impression. Many people think that it is not possible to make money at photography these days. They point out to the fact that almost everyone has a digital camera or even mobile phones have cameras. So, the conclusion is why, would anyone pay for your services or photographs.
The reality is that while almost everyone own a digital camera not everyone is competent at take good pictures.
If you really take a look at such photographs you will be convinced that quality and creativity are lacking. Faults include motion blur from holding the camera incorrectly, poor color, awkward postures by their subjects and no composition skills are just some of the very noticeable causes. Others include photos with dark shadows obscuring the subject and many more. Most of these photos cannot be even corrected by using digital photo editing software. There is only so much you can do to correct a poor photograph.
With such poor quality, what will happen when these people try to print their photos? Undoubtedly, the prints will be of poor quality. The person taking the photograph do not have the understanding of the camera settings that ensure pictures suitable for printing or other aspects of digital photography.
The situation is therefore good news for you. With your interest and some digital photography skills, you can easily show prospective customers a few samples that will get them buying your services.
Let me share any incident with you. It's a birthday party I attended recently. The hostess engaged the services of an experienced amateur photographer who was hoping to start her own business - just like you.
Almost all and sundry at the party brought their own digital cameras - but once the party got going, who do you think remembered to take pictures … very few. Those who did take snap shots, did not bother to find the best angles or think about proper composition.
At the end of the party, the guests were given the photographer contact and her website. Two days later, when all the pictures were uploaded to her web site, the party-goers were amazed by how well the pictures were taken. Without doubt, many ordered prints or downloaded the digital version onto their computer.
The photographer, obviously, was rewarded generously for her services. It is cool isn't it? This is just one example of the many opportunities available for photographers keen to make their hobby generate an income.
You can do this too. Develop your photography skills, get a marketing plan and say Cheese!
